What does your tariff really cost?
Divide base prices, one-off costs and secure bonuses across 24 months to get the effective monthly price. That way you can truly compare teaser offers.
Teaser prices often hide the later monthly charge. The calculator spreads all the payments and bonuses you enter over 24 months and makes offers easier to compare.
The items that really make up the price
The advertised monthly price almost never applies for the whole term. So the calculator spreads all payments over 24 months: the promotional price for the discounted months, then the regular price, plus connection fee, delivery, router and secure bonuses.
Only this total divided by 24 gives you a figure with which two offers can be compared fairly. Two tariffs with the same advertised price can differ considerably here.
- Enter the promotional price and the later price separately
- Don’t forget the connection fee and delivery
- Scale router rental up over 24 months
- Bonuses only if the conditions can definitely be met
Only count secure bonuses
Only enter a bonus if you have understood its conditions and can meet them on time. Don’t automatically count gifts in kind at their advertised retail price as a saving.
Frequently asked questions
How do I account for my own router in the effective price calculator?
Enter the purchase price as a one-off cost and leave out router rental if it doesn't apply. If you keep using an existing compatible router, there are no new purchase costs. Use the same assumption for all the tariffs you compare.
Is the effective monthly price what is actually debited each month?
No. The effective price spreads one-off and ongoing costs arithmetically over the chosen period. Your actual debits may differ because of connection fees, time-limited discounts or bonuses paid out later.
What goes into the effective price?
All payments due over the minimum term: base prices including the higher rate after a discount period, connection fee, delivery, router rental or purchase and any device payment. Only bonuses whose conditions you are sure to meet on time are deducted.
Why do tariffs with a starting discount look cheaper than they are?
What is advertised is usually the discounted introductory price, which often applies only for part of the term. After that, the regular base price applies. If you spread all payments evenly over 24 months, the ranking between two offers often shifts noticeably.
